Joey started in softcore in the early 70s and then moved to bit parts in hardcore. The first time I met him was on the set of the film 'V'. He had been doing small, incidental roles and wanted to make an impression. He really tried so hard but seemed like a nitwit to me. It was then that he attached himself to John Leslie and became a real life 'Lenny' in their relationship. I once asked John about how he could tolerate him. John looked at me, shrugged his shoulders, flashed that big smile, put out his hands, and said only, "Hey...Paison!(sp)". In other words, they were both Italian. Now this is a true story..... Joey, for whatever reason and you can fill in the blank yourself, had trouble writing his name. He would misspell it constantly and not on purpose. I can recall several occasions in which he had to have checks re-issued because his bank would not cash them due to the huge difference on his state id and the issued check. He denied being dyslexic. When Damiano was shooting Night Hunger and after Joey (who was a hothead) made some derogatory comment about Gerry's hairpiece, Gerry passed Joey a note with the name 'Joey Silvera' printed in bold lettering. When Joey asked what the fuck that was all about, Gerry told him (in front of everyone) that he should fucking put it in his pocket for safe keeping so that he could fucking spell his name correctly the next time his signature was fucking needed. "Fucking' was Damiano's favorite adverb and I only recall the story because he was so emphatic about using it. I don't think Joey ever forgot how to spell his name again.
